The National Human Rights Council (CNDH), represented by Mrs. Aziza Bekkali, CNDH member, and Mr. Khalid Ramli, Director of Cooperation and International Relations at the CNDH, participated in the proceedings of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) conference and its 20th General Assembly, on Sunday 30 July 2023 in Cairo, Egypt, entitled: “National Human Rights Institutions Established in Accordance with the Paris Principles: Roles and Challenges, Visions and Aspiration’’.
Within this context, the CNDH reviewed its experience in the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI) Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA). It also shared insights on the best practices and challenges facing NHRIs in the Arab region, with the view to identify priorities/needs and strengthen the role of international and regional networks and organizations in supporting their efforts.
On this occasion, Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of the Egyptian National Human Rights Council (NCHR), took over the presidency of ANNHRI from Mr. Ahmed Bouhoubeyni, President of the Mauritanian National Human Rights Commission and former chairman of the network.
Chairs and representatives of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in Arab countries, international and regional organizations, and representatives of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) participated in the conference, along with the GANHRI and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, to enhance cooperation and coordination among institutions and bodies working in the field of human rights in the Arab world.
