Ms. Amina Bouayach, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), highlighted the leading role of the Global South, including Morocco, in the international dialogue on migration, in her opening remarks at the Global Human Rights Summit held in San Salvador.
She reiterated that the Global South played a key role in drafting the Global Compact for Migration, adopted in Marrakech, highlighting the ongoing concern that no country of the Global North has yet ratified the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families.
Ms. Bouayach emphasized that migrants’ rights are a universal human rights issue, inseparable from human dignity. She stressed that this dignity transcends race, religion, or nationality and must be equally upheld for all individuals.
In this context, the CNDH Chairperson further highlighted the importance of ensuring full participation in society for all groups, including migrants.
Taking place amid rising global threats to migrant rights, the Summit seeks to cast light on the contributions of the Global South in leading international human rights discussions and shaping their principles, an endeavor that Ms. Bouayach has consistently highlighted in both regional and global forums.
