Ms. Amina Bouayach, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), was presented with the key to the city of San Salvador by the mayor of the Salvadoran capital on Monday, during a Global Human Rights Summit held from September 2 to 4, 2025.
On this occasion, Ms. Bouayach affirmed that the honor recognizes the work of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) and human rights defenders worldwide, emphasizing that protecting human dignity is a collective responsibility requiring constant commitment.
The Summit also honored Ms. Bouayach in recognition of her journey as a Moroccan woman human rights defender and her leadership at the national, regional, and international levels in protecting rights and freedoms and preventing violations. The ceremony featured presentations by the Summit organizers highlighting Morocco’s major democratic transformations, structural reforms, and best practices over the past two decades.

“This recognition is a tribute to women, Moroccans, Africans women defending human rights… a trbute to everyone who stands for human dignity,” noted the CNDH Chaiperson
It is worth noting that Ms. Bouayach, together with regional and international figures, opened the San Salvador Summit by calling for a joint roadmap built around six key priorities: the protection of dignity and the prevention of violations and torture in places of deprivation of liberty; migrants' rights; climate/environmental justice, and social justice; human rights in the digital space; inclusion; and political participation.
