On Thursday 3 October 2024, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) held the second workshop as part of its series “Let's Talk about Human Rights" titled “Human Rights Progress in Morocco.” This initiative, launched on 26 September 2024, is organized in partnership with the Junior Chamber International (JCI RABAT).
Facilitated by Dr. Ali Karimi, University Professor, the workshop explored the evolution of human rights in Morocco, tracing the journey from the struggle for independence to the adoption of the 2011 Constitution. Dr. Karimi provided an insight into the historical context of human rights during this period, highlighting key milestones in rights and freedoms alongside with Morocco’s democratic advancements and its interaction with international and regional political transformations.
Dr. Karimi also addressed the challenges related to economic and social rights within the framework of the contemporary global economic system. Additionally, he discussed the process of transitional justice and the role of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER) in promoting rights and freedoms.
These workshops aim to enhance the capacities and knowledge of participating young people regarding the foundational concepts of human rights. They also seek to raise awareness about the current challenges and stakes related to universally recognized human rights principles.
These workshops will continue until 7 November 2024, taking place every Thursday. They are part of a joint project between the CNDH and the JCI Rabat Association designed to empower young people in the field of human rights. Participants will be equipped with the necessary tools to become active and committed actors in civil society.
