Ms. Amina Bouayach Affirms that the Goal is to collaborate with Young People and Enhance their Engagement in Human Rights and Civil Action

The workshops series "Let's Talk about Human Rights", organized by the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) in partnership with the Junior Chamber International Rabat (JCI Rabat) from September 26 to November 7, 2024, at the Rabat - Driss Benzekri - Institute for Human Rights, concluded on Thursday evening, November 7, 2024, at the CNDH’s headquarters in Rabat, Morocco.

In her statement at the closing ceremony, Ms. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson, reaffirmed the CNDH’s commitment to working with young people on human rights issues, highlighting the importance of listening to their perspectives and ideas to develop practical solutions. She emphasized the initiative’s broader goal of fostering youth engagement in human rights, civil action and public affairs.

Ms. Bouayach also stressed the importance of youth contribution to achieving change. She addressed young participants, stating: "Morocco, Africa and the world need your passion, energy, vision and innovative ideas, which are undoubtedly shaped by your reality and concerns. The future we aspire to build depends on the actions we take today and now."

Ms. Bouayach emphasized that empowering young people is one of the core priorities of the CNDH related to the effectiveness of human rights. In this context, she welcomed participants’ human rights proposals and projects. She also noted that the closing ceremony is not an end, but a new beginning for this project that is rooted in five essential pillars: reflection, dialogue, initiative, action and collaboration to provide young participants with a foundation to become key actors in public affairs. Furthermore, Ms. Bouayach called for expanding this initiative to reach other regions.

CNDH Chairperson also welcomed the participants for their engagement throughout the workshops. She noted the depth of their contributions, underling that their insightful questions and ideas illustrate the commitment and expectations of youth, and “we will not hesitate to engage with them, interact, and support their initiatives," Ms. Bouayach stated. She also expressed her gratitude to the CNDH staff and expert facilitators who contributed to the success of the program.

The closing ceremony also featured the distribution of certificates of participation to all attendees, recognizing their commitment to advancing human rights knowledge and fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the field. These workshops aim to enhance capacities and understanding of young people regarding human rights and raise their awareness about the current challenges related to universally recognized human rights principles.

In addition, the participants visited the CNDH's exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER), established in 2004. The exhibition, themed “20 Years of Truth, Equity and Reconciliation, Commemorating a Milestone and a Journey,” provided an opportunity for the youth to learn about this pivotal chapter in modern Moroccan history.
