At an international meeting on banning the political use of religion, held on March 26, 2026, in the Churchill Room at the UK House of Commons, Ms. Amina Bouayach, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), was awarded the International Award for Confronting the Political Abuse of Religion. The award recognizes her distinguished leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing human rights, equality, and fundamental freedoms, both in Morocco and internationally.

During the ceremony, BPUR International commended Bouayach’s long-standing dedication to defending human dignity, promoting democratic values, and fostering inclusive societies rooted in respect for diversity and the rule of law.

As Chairperson of Morocco’s national human rights institution, Ms. Bouayach has contributed to “strengthening the protection of human rights, promoting equality before the law, and encouraging dialogue that supports peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.”

Organizers noted that the award also acknowledges her continued efforts to counter extremism, reject the use of religion as a tool for division, and protect civic space where freedom of belief and equal citizenship can thrive.

Through her sustained advocacy for human rights and good governance, the CNDH Chairperson “has contributed significantly to international efforts to prevent the political abuse of religion and to promote equality and mutual respect.” She has also played a key role in advancing this global initiative by supporting and leading the first international conference on the political abuse of religion, held in Rabat on May 11–12, 2022, which marked an important milestone in the global campaign advocating for an international treaty to ban the political abuse of religion.
