In her opening statement, Ms. Bouayach underscored the priority of this collaboration, affirming, "At GANHRI, we consider this collaboration one of our strategic objectives,” particularly in light of unprecedented challenges threatening human rights values worldwide.

The meeting brought together NHRI representatives, OHCHR experts, and key UN special procedure figures, including: Mrs. Mama Fatima Singhateh, UN Special Rapporteur on the Sale and Sexual Exploitation of Children, Mrs. Astrid Puentes Riaño, UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to a Healthy Environment, Mrs. Nathalie Rondeaux, Secretary of the Coordination Committee, Special Procedures Division, OHCHR.

Ms. Bouayach highlighted the close alignment between the missions of NHRIs and UN special procedures. Both bodies engage in missions such as monitoring, providing assistance and advisory services, proactive interventions in emergencies, raising awareness, and interactions with states, institutions, victims, and NGOs. She stated that “there is a strong interconnection and complementarity between our roles, despite working at different levels. This synergy enhances our shared missions to promote and protect human rights both nationally and internationally.”

Reiterating the necessity of cooperation between NHRIs and UN mechanisms, Ms. Bouayach highlighted that this cooperation can be a critical tool in addressing human rights violations and strengthening on-the-ground protection. She underlined the importance of equipping NHRIs with effective response strategies tailored to national and local contexts.

In conclusion, Mrs. Bouayach renewed her call to expand and deepen partnerships between NHRIs and special procedures to achieve tangible progress in strengthening human rights worldwide.
