The proceedings of the international conference on «The Moroccan Experience in Transitional Justice» were inaugurated on the morning of Friday, December 6, 2024, at the headquarters of the House of Representatives in Rabat, Morocco.

This event, held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was organized by the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and both chambers of Parliament.

The two-day conference commemorates the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER) and highlights Morocco’s significant achievements in the field of transitional justice.

On this occasion, a Royal Message was addressed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the participants in this international event, delivered by Ms. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson.

In his Royal Message, His Majesty King Mohammed VI reiterated that the establishment of the IER was a sovereign decision within a voluntary process for managing public affairs. This approach is grounded in a new concept of authority, institutional responsibility and accountability to ensure the dignity of all Moroccans.

His Majesty further highlighted that, through the IER’s recommendations, a framework was established for comprehensive societal reforms, including constitutional and legislative changes, as well as the creation of consultative and institutional mechanisms. These efforts aim to break with past violations, entrench governance based on the principles of the rule of law, and foster a sustained progress.
