The exhibition, which opened today, Tuesday 30 June, presents portraits of women who have distinguished themselves across a range of pioneering fields, including heads of state and government, leaders of regional organizations, human rights defenders, policymakers, and civil society actors, representing 47 member states of the UN body. The portrait of Ms. Amina Bouayach is featured as the only Moroccan in this selection, as well as one of three Arab women and three African leaders taking part in this UN celebration of women’s leadership.
Accompanying her portrait is a profile that highlights Ms. Bouayach’s human rights journey as Chairperson of Morocco's National Human Rights Institution (NHRI), recognizing her as a prominent international voice in advocacy for the right to life. It also underscores her sustained commitment to defending the rights of women, victims, and vulnerable groups, as well as her broader contributions to promoting a culture of human rights and strengthening the role of civil society in Morocco, across Africa, and at the international level.

This tribute is part of an initiative led by the United Nations Office at Geneva, UN Women, and international partners, set against a broader global context of increasing acknowledgment of women’s leadership and their growing presence in positions of influence and decision-making, as well as their vital role in advancing justice, dignity, and human rights at national, regional, and international levels.
