After detecting measles cases in several prisons and reviewing preliminary data released by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR), the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), through its National Mechanism for the Prevention of Torture (NPM), has decided to intensify its monitoring of health conditions within these institutions and enhance preventive mechanisms against the disease.
In this context, a CNDH/NPM team conducted an initial field visit to Tangier 2 Local Prison on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, followed by a second visit to Kenitra Central Prison on Monday, February 3.
These visits aim to assess the measures taken to limit the spread of the disease and ensure the health of individuals deprived of their liberty, particularly within prisons where the risk of contagion is high.
The CNDH/NPM team welcomed the swift and effective response of the prison administration in handling the recorded cases, particularly through the organization of a voluntary vaccination campaign, which is still ongoing, in addition to implementing preventive isolation measures for infected prisoners and administrative staff.
Similar visits are planned to assess the risk of disease transmission in child protection centers and elderly centers.
