The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) are organizing an event on the sidelines of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 29), on November 14, 2024 in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Entitled "Migration and Adaptation in the Context of Climate Change", the event will be held at the Pavilion of the Kingdom of Morocco in the Blue Zone.

The event aims to provide a platform for dialogue, engagement and reflection on this multifaceted issue. It seeks to formulate recommendations and proposals of collaborative actions to address the challenges posed by climate change, focusing on strengthening the resilience of vulnerable communities and reinforcing cooperation among national, regional and international stakeholders to protect migrants' rights in the context of climate change.

The event will discuss ways to strengthen coordination of efforts to protect migrants’ rights at local and international levels, identify sustainable financing mechanisms to support resilient adaptation strategies, as well as highlighting the role of National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) in advocating for the protection of migrant rights in the context of climate migration.

Ms. Maimouna Essayed, President of the CNDH Regional Commission of Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, Mr. Khalid Ramli, Director of Cooperation and International Relations at the CNDH, Mr. Mohamed Baraoui, Director of Climate and Biodiversity at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development in Morocco, Dr. Bernard Mogesa, from the National Human Rights Commission of Kenya, Mr. Yonas Gebru, Coordinator of the Pan-African Climate Justice Alliance (PACJA) and Mr. David BARISSA, Senior Program Officer at NANHRI will participate in this event.
