Ms. Amina Bouayach, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) highlighted that the Regional Human Rights Commissions (CRDHs) are significant mechanisms of proximity that work to support CNDH's missions related to monitoring human rights violations and protecting victims. In her statement delivered on the occasion of the public announcement of members of the CRDH of the Oriental Region, CNDH Chairperson stated that the CRDHs new functions allow the establishment of the new permanent committee on following up and assessing public policies, besides the permanent committees on the protection and the promotion of human rights. The new permanent committee was established following the context of protests in several regions in Morocco expressing social, economic, cultural and environmental claims of inhabitants. Therefore, added Ms. Bouayach, this CRDH should be close to inhabitants through listening to their demands and raising the attention of local authorities on the responsiveness of development plans related to economic and social rights.

Within this context, CNDH Chairperson called the CRDH members to be open and establish a partnership with civil society to enable the Council and its regional commission to follow up on social and economic situations.

The ceremony of the installation of the CRDH of the Oriental Region members was organized on Friday, October 16, 2020, in Oujda, Morocco.

This installation is part of the completion of the Council's structures in all Moroccan regions. The CRDH members are proposed by the regional representative of judges, lawyers, ministry of education, the Higher Ulema Council, doctors, professional journalists, and civil society, in addition to several activists working in protecting and promoting human rights.
