The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) participated in the proceedings of a meeting on humanitarian borders management, which was jointly organized by Morocco and Spain on Thursday 22 June 2023, in Marrakech, Morocco.
Morocco participates in this meeting as the current Chair of the Euro-African Dialogue on Migration and Development (Rabat Process), which was previously presided by Spain.
The CNDH statement, delivered by Mr. Abderrafie Hamdi, Head of the Protection and Monitoring Department, focused on Border Management and Human Rights Protection. It shed light on the CNDH’s roles at the national level, including the preventive, protective and monitoring actions conducted in border areas, such as airports.
It also emphasized the CNDH’s contribution to strengthening the capacities of law enforcement officials and civil society as part of its partnership and cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNCHR) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The CNDH also highlighted its role at the African level, noting that Ms. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson, chairs the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) Working Group on Migration.
