On Wednesday, March 12, 2025, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) of Morocco reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the effective protection and promotion of women’s and girl’s rights at a session organized as part of the 2025 Annual Meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI). Held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, this session provided a platform for sharing best practices among National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) worldwide.
CNDH emphasized its dedication to advancing gender equality and protecting women's and girls' rights. A key focus of the session was Morocco's bottom-up participatory approach to significant reforming projects, including the recent review of the Family Code, marking two decades since its implementation.
Representing the CNDH, Mr. Abdelghani Bardi, Acting Director of Communication, outlined the CNDH’s actions in this area. He highlighted CNDH’s reports, opinions, and recommendations advocating for women's and girls' rights, including its recent memorandum on the Family Code review and its report on reporting violence against women and girls.
Additionally, the CNDH has launched several national and regional annual campaigns—both online and offline—aiming to end violence against women and girls, promote gender parity and women's political participation, enhance child consultation and engagement, and prevent child marriage for individuals under 18.
Beyond addressing child marriage, the CNDH shared its recommendations and perspectives on combating domestic violence, sexual harassment, digital violence, the underreporting of gender-based violence, rape, and sexual assaults against women and girls. It also highlighted its pivotal role in aligning national legislation with international human rights law and best comparative practices.
The CNDH reiterated its call for ratifying the Istanbul Convention and the International Labour Organization's (ILO) Convention on the Elimination of Violence and Harassment in the Workplace.
