In her opening statement on the occasion of the public announcement of the members of the Regional Human Rights Commission of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region (CRDH), Ms. Amina Bouayach, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) affirmed that the new members of the regional committee will add new momentum to the ongoing and daily work aiming to prevent human rights violations, protect its victims, and promote the culture of human rights.
She also explained that these three missions are, insofar, as they are independent of each other, they are connected. Therefore, CNDH is, sometimes, in a delicate situation that requires objectivity and impartiality in its work to present proposals and recommendations to society and the public authorities on strengthening the human rights process.
The CRDH, headed by Ms. Soulma Taoud, is composed of 21 members who are proposed by the regional representative of judges, lawyers, education, the Higher Ulema Council, doctors, professional journalists, civil society, and several activists working in protecting and promoting human rights.
In this context, Ms. Bouayach welcomed the diversity in the composition of the CRDH. She also stressed the need to open up to NGOs and experts to better address issues raised by the specificities of the region.
At this event, which was held on Tuesday, 20 October 2020, in Tangier, Morocco, CNDH Chairperson underlined the report elaborated by CNDH on the Al Hoceima protests. She also highlighted the new process of the completion of the Al Hoceima Museum project. Within this context, Ms. Bouayach shed light on CNDH's meeting with partners working on the establishment of the Al Hoceima Museum where representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Culture, the Head of the Municipal Council of Al Hoceima, the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Regional Council, and the Architectural Office in charge of implementing this project participated to accelerate the process of the completion of the museum project.
