As part of the 57th session of the Human Rights Council (HRC), the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) participated in the Panel discussion on “the implementation of States’ obligations on the role of the family in supporting the human rights of its members” on Wednesday 25 September 2024, in Geneva.
In this context, the CNDH emphasized that Moroccan Constitution provides that the State has legal, judicial, social, and economic responsibilities to protect the family. The CNDH firmly believes that family rights cannot be fully realized unless all family members, regardless of their status, enjoy their rights and freedoms.
The CNDH noted with satisfaction Morocco’s commitment to advance family rights, as shown by the ongoing reform of the family law, the second of its kind after the one undertaken 20 years ago.
The CNDH shed light on its memorandum on family code reform recommending measures for equality, non-discrimination and child protection and highlighted its ongoing advocate for key reforms, including ending child marriage, ensuring equal education, and reinforcing the rights of vulnerable groups.
In the end of its statement, the CNDH urges the government to accelerate the establishment of the Advisory Council for Family and Childhood and the Youth and Associative Action Council, both of them are constitutional institutions.
