As part of the global campaign 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which extend from November 25 to December 10, 2024, the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), will organize an interactive workshop in line with the international UN initiative "Unite to End Violence against Women and Girls." The event will take place on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 9:30 am at the CNDH headquarters in Rabat, Morocco.
This workshop reflects Morocco's commitment to promoting gender equality and combating gender-based violence, as enshrined in the Constitution and national legislation, as well as in fulfilment of its international obligations under the conventions and treaties ratified by the Kingdom.
The event also underscores the CNDH’s dedication to protecting the rights of women and girls and serves as part of an ongoing series of initiatives aiming to advance gender equality. These efforts include the CNDH's report on encouraging the denunciation of violence against women and combating impunity, conducting regular campaigns to address gender-based violence, and the CNDH’s recommendations on protecting human rights during crises, as outlined in its 2023 annual report.
During the workshop, stakeholders will address the outcome of combating gender-based violence in Morocco by highlighting the measures, procedures, and initiatives undertaken by relevant actors. The event aims to reinforce awareness-raising efforts to encourage denouncing and combat impunity in cases of violence against women and girls. It will also explore ways to mobilize and strengthen the role of civil society in addressing this pressing issue.
The workshop will focus on several key issues, including: violence against girls and women during crises, digital violence, and the role, working conditions and interventions of civil society.
Representatives of civil society associations, academic institutions and research centers, experts and researchers will participate in this event.
This workshop coincides with international preparations to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which calls on all stakeholders to adopt effective measures and policies to eliminate violence against women and girls, reaffirming its prioritization within the Beijing Action Plan.
