The Regional Human Rights Commission in the Drâa-Tafilalet Region (CRDH) is organizing a meeting on the practical guide on Managing Hunger Strikes in Prisons, on Wednesday 15 February 2023, at 10 am, at the Sociological and Cultural Complex Oulad El Hajj, in Errachidia, Morocco.
This regional meeting is part of the implementation of the CRDH mandate, action program 2023, and its protective missions related to visiting places of detention, monitoring the conditions and treatment of prisoners, and receiving their or their families’ complaints.
Director of the Protection of human rights Directorate at the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the Head of the Health Care Department at the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) will facilitate this meeting.
It intends to shed light on the contents, themes and objectives of this practical guide that aims at establishing a unified measure for hunger strikes in prisons by developing a guiding framework for possible interventions and defining responsibilities according to the relevant authorities to ensure the protection of prisoners’ rights, their dignity, and physical and psychological integrity, in line with the United Nations Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners.
King’s Attorney General, King's Attorneys at the two judicial departments in the region, regional director of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, regional delegates of the Ministry of Health, prisons directors, doctors, representatives of health care offices, lawyers, civil society activists and the media will participate in this event.
