The Regional Human Rights Commission (CRDH) in the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region organized a round table on “Legal and Social Protection of the Child”, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 11 am, at the CRDH headquarters in Dakhla, Morocco.
This meeting aims to shed light on existing laws, public policies and programs designed to protect and promote children’s rights. Furthermore, it sought to address the challenges and difficulties that hinder the effective implementation of these legal frameworks and programs.
In her opening statement, Ms. Maimouna Essayed, CRDH President, emphasized the significance of this meeting, which follows a similar gathering held last November. This initiative is part of a broader regional consultation with children, driven by the findings that highlighted the need for enhanced coordination and cooperation to effectively implement a human rights approach within regional programs. Ms. Essayed noted that Morocco is preparing to review its achievement in relation to the International Convention on the Rights of the Child (ICRC). She also underlined the efforts of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) in supporting children to develop their specific report as a direct outcome of regional consultations initiated by Ms. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson, in Guelmim in February 2023.
Several partner institutions and civil society working in the field of children’s rights participated in this event.
A key outcome of the meeting was the establishment of a cooperation and joint work mechanism involving representatives from participating institutions and civil actors. This mechanism aims to develop a collaborative program focused on training, experience sharing and the dissemination of best practices, culminating in a regional event dedicated to evaluating and promoting children's rights within regional programs and projects, aligning with the CNDH’s special report and the outcomes of Morocco's review before the Committee on the Rights of the Child.
