The National Human Rights Council (CNDH), in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Morocco, are organizing a workshop themed “Preventing Disappearances in the Context of Migration, Protecting Family Rights, and Ensuring Humane Border Management.” on December 11, 2024 at the CNDH headquarters in Rabat, Morocco.
The workshop is part of ongoing efforts to follow up on the implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration (GCM), adopted in Marrakech in 2018, with emphasis on its Objective 8: “Save lives and establish coordinated international efforts on missing migrants.”
The event also aims to support the implementation of recommendations developed during the Rabat Process “Thematic Meeting on Family Separation and Missing Persons in the Context of Migration,” held in September 2023.
Bringing together representatives from government ministries, international organizations, and civil society, the workshop will provide a platform to share best practices for addressing cases of disappearance. It will also foster a participatory approach, emphasizing the role of civil society and promoting dialogue on improving systems for identifying deceased individuals.
The sessions will cast light on the legal framework for protecting migrants and related measures, highlight the work of civil society organizations supporting the families of missing persons, and share experiences of cooperation in preventing disappearances
Ms. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson, and Ms. Laura Palatini, Chief of Mission at IOM Morocco, will take part in the opening session.
