The Parliament unanimously approved Law No. 76-15 on the reorganization of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) in February 2018. This law broadens CNDH's mandate, mainly through hosting three mechanisms:
- National Preventive Mechanism against Torture (NPM) established in accordance with the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment;
- Child Redress Mechanism, in line with the General Comment No. 2 (2002) entitled “The Role of Independent National Human Rights Institutions in the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of the Child”;
- Mechanism for the Protection of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in accordance with Article 33 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
