The Paris Principles are international standards that set out the main criteria that National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) are required to meet. These principles were developed at an international workshop on NHRIs, held in Paris in 1991, to be adopted at the United Nations General Assembly in 1993(Resolution A/RES/48/134).
