The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) welcomes the Pardon granted by His Majesty the King to 5654 prisoners, and his High Instructions to strengthen the necessary measures to protect detainees in penal institutions, particularly against the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The CNDH expresses its high consideration for the criteria of the Pardon, which was granted to the elderly, women, under age children, detainees suffering from chronic diseases and the most vulnerable.

Given the exceptional circumstances associated with the Health Emergency, this process will be carried out gradually.

The beneficiaries of the Royal Pardon will be subject to surveillance, carry out medical tests, and will be quarantined at home, to ensure their safety.
