The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) is organizing the third event of the Human Rights Agora project entitled “The Right to the City and the City of Rights: Challenges of Emerging Cities,” on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 9:30 am, at the CNDH’s headquarters in Rabat, Morocco.
The Human Rights Agora project aims to address issues related to the effectiveness of human rights and freedoms.
This upcoming event will focus on the emerging cities in Morocco, which, despite their roles as centers of economic and social development, face significant challenges in ensuring the effectiveness of human rights. Key issues include equitable access to fundamental services, citizen participation in urban management, and respect for the environment.
This event will build on the outcomes of the symposium held in July 2023, on "Emerging Cities in Morocco: Prospects and Challenges of Human Rights".
The CNDH aims to showcase the Moroccan’s experiences in this field and compare them with international practices to identify trends and best practices for establishing sustainable spaces that effectively guarantee human rights.
It also seeks to deepen the discussion on integrating the right to the city as a fundamental principle to ensure that urban development is both sustainable and inclusive.
Participants will explore five key themes, including: "The right to the City as a Gateway to Social and Spatial Justice"; "The Situation of Emerging Cities in Morocco"; "Development of Urban Public Policies in Morocco"; "Emerging Cities and Sustainable Development"; "New Forms of Participation in Response to Urban Expansion and Emerging Cities".
Mrs. Amina Bouayach, CNDH Chairperson will inaugurate this event.
Representatives of government sectors and public institutions, academics, researchers, experts and civil society organizations working in the fields of housing, youth and disability, etc. will participate in this event.
