Members of the Working Group on Migration of the Network of African National Human Rights Institutions (NANHRI) commended today, Friday, January 31, 2025, "Morocco's best practices, the leading role of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), and the proactive efforts of its Chairperson, Ms. Amina Bouayach, Chair of the Working Group, in addressing migration issues in Africa and promoting the roles of NHRIs in this area."
This recognition came during the first meeting of the Working Group for 2025, where members discussed a draft cooperation roadmap between NANHRI and the Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (CMW).
As Chair of NANHRI’s WG on Migration, the CNDH led early negotiations that culminated in a decision by the UN Committee and NANHRI, particularly its WG on Migration, to advance efforts aimed at protecting the rights of migrant workers and their families across the African continent.
In this same context, the CNDH Chairperson also spearheaded a Moroccan/African advocacy initiative geared towards fostering harmony between the UN’s International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (ICPPED) and the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration, through meetings in Morocco, Geneva, and New York.
It is noteworthy that the UN CMW held an extraordinary meeting in Agadir on May 10-11, 2022, prior to the adoption of the General Comment No. 6 (2024) earlier this year. This new commentary highlights the comprehensive protection of migrant workers' rights and their families under both the ICPPED and the Global Compact for Migration.

The Working Group, chaired by CNDH, also includes the NHRIs of Kenya, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria. On CNDH's invitation, members participated in a roundtable organized by the National Observatory for Migration on "Humane Border Management: From Managing Fragility to Stimulating Opportunities" on January 30, 2025.
