CNDH IN EGYPT FOR 1st REGIONAL FORUM ON TRANSITIONAL JUSTICE
The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) will take part in the 1st Regional Forum on Transitional Justice: Opportunities and Challenges, on Sunday 12 and Monday 13 of May 2013, in Cairo, Egypt. Thos 1st Forum is organized by the Arab Organization for Human Rights, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program and the Center for Human Rights and Democracy in Morocco. CNDH will be represented by its Secretary General Mr. Mohamed Essabbar.Invited to take part in this regional gathering along with several Moroccan figures and stakeholders, Mr. Essabbar will give a presentation on the different aspects of the Moroccan experience in the area of transitional justice. Morocco is the first Arab country to start a transitional justice experience. He will highlight the role CNDH have played in this experience.
This regional forum aims to discuss the opportunities of transitional justice in the Arab Spring countries. It will be the first meeting in a series of forums and meetings to be organized by the Arab Organization for Human Rights in the coming two years. The commission aims to contribute to the efforts aiming at the democratic transition in the Arab countries witnessing Arab Spring uprisings, especially that the transitional justice processes are still struggling in these countries.
Eight sessions are scheduled in the forum. The experiences of Iraq, Algeria, Sudan, Tunisia, Libya, Yemen and Egypt will be highlighted. Three sessions will be devoted to the Moroccan experience.
