CNDH Regional Commission in the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region holds its 3rd Regular Meeting

As part of the implementation of the requirements of Law 76-15 related to the reorganization of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH), the Regional Human Rights Commission of the Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region (CRDH) held its Third Regular Meeting on Thursday 30 September 2021 in Tangier, Morocco. 

This event was organized in line with Article 36 of the CNDH Rules of Procedures.

Stakeholders addressed at this meeting the strategic priorities related to the CRDH action plan and its implementation during the pandemic.

Mrs. Soulma Taoud, CRDH President, welcomed the commitment of members in implementing the CRDH missions through its three Standing Committees.

The three Standing Committees’ missions are: Protection of human rights, Promotion of human rights and following up and assessing the effectiveness of human rights in public policies and regional programs.

CRDH President also underlined members’ contributions in monitoring and documenting violations. She also indicated the importance of their role in proactive interventions to counter violations and trial and protests observations.

Mrs. Taoud also announced the CRDH action program for the next period. It is mainly related to strengthening capacities on international human rights conventions, assessment and follow-up indicators, regional prisons and social centers visits, scheduling action plans to improve partnership with different relevant actors.

For their part, Coordinators of the three CRDH Standing Committees, Mr. Mohamed Hamdi, Mr. Mohamed Lamrabti and Mr. Abdelah Ounir, highlighted the Committees’ achievements and the coming activities as part of their annual action plan. They also made recommendations to improve coordination and joint actions.

This meeting was also an occasion to discuss the new development model report. Mr. Abdelmalek El Asri and Mrs. Hajar Khamlichi, CRDH members, presented readings on this subject in light of the CNDH’s Memorandum entitled “The effectiveness of rights and freedoms in Morocco… For a new social contract”.

In the context of strengthening the capacities of the CRDH members, Mr. Khalid Ramli, Director Cooperation and International Relations at the CNDH, shed light on International Human Rights Mechanisms, mainly related to international binding and non-binding instruments, the United Nations system and treaty bodies, special procedures, the universal periodic review, etc.
