CCDH PRESIDENT DISCUSSES HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES WITH DAS TAMARA COFMAN WITTES

Mr. Ahmed Herzenni, President of the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH), met a US delegation led by Deputy Assistant Secretary for Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs Tamara Cofman Wittes, on September 21st, 2010, at the headquarters of the Council in Rabat.

Mr. Herzenni and Mrs. Wittes discussed many issues related to human rights, such as the implementation of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission (IER)’s recommendations, efforts made by the Council to promote and protect human rights, human trafficking, role of ONGs, etc. Mrs. Wittes praised the Moroccan experience in the observation of elections, which was supervised by the Council.

Mr. Herzenni pointed out that "the Council is almost done with the IER’s recommendations". He confirmed that the Council "works on the future of human rights in Morocco" following a comprehensive approach that include social, economic, cultural and environmental rights.

In this respect, Mr. Herzenni indicated that the Council has already finalized the Citizenship Platform for the Promotion of Human Rights Culture and the National Plan of Action on Democracy and Human rights and stressed their importance in the Moroccan human rights context.
