EDITORIAL

The 18 issue of the CCDH newsletter sheds light on a special moment in the carrier of the Advisory Council on Human Rights (CCDH). The Sub-Committee on Accreditation of the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC) recommended the re-accreditation of the Council as an ‘A status’ national human rights institution. This grade is given to national human rights institutions that are in compliance with the Paris Principles governing such institutions.

The issue deals as well with the new dynamic of the Council in the field of the promotion of human rights culture. This dynamic involves artists and scholars in the promotion of human rights.

Indeed, the Council concluded two partnership agreements with the Moroccan Coalition of Culture and Arts (CMCA) and the Rabita Mohammedia des Oulémas (Mohammadia League of Scholars), in addition to the presentation of a draft charter, on the promotion of human rights culture.

Besides, the issue highlights the presence of the Council at the international level. The Council represented the ICC in the discussions held in Geneva to review the work and functioning of the United Nations Human Rights Council, in October 2010. The Council started the Arab Ibero-American dialogue of national institutions for the promotion and protection of human rights.

This issue sheds light as well on the participation of the Council in the 100th session of the Human Rights Committee. The Council presented proposals to strengthen cooperation between the Committee and national human rights institutions.

The issue underlines the local dynamic of the Community Reparation Program. It sheds light on the program of capacity building for local stakeholders launched in local communes targeted by the Program in the province of Azilal. It deals as well with the seminar organized by CCDH regional administrative office in Agadir on “Women’s image in the media”, to celebrate the national women’s day in Morocco.

Enjoy it!
